There comes a time in every young man’s life when he is not sure if he saw Gaga or not. I was dropping off at Nicola Formichetti’s studio today for V and saw this lady, who I believe may well be Lady GG:

Ha, I’m bluffin’ with your muffin. I saw nobody in a full Alejandro get-up. But what I did catch a glimpse of looked a little like Gaga and it would make lots of sense that she was there, being so close with NF and all. Whether it was her, or a Gaga mirage, I couldn’t help but feel dmcg and lady gg were getting closer to their inevitable MONSTER MUNCH*….

V Magazine September 2010 (a.k.a how I sweated away my summer) has launched. I can’t look at a single fashion story without being reminded of the tears, tantrums and tit-tape involved. But OH! How beautiful it is. And fittingly, it’s the New York Issue. With two whopper, whopper covers…

It’s a hefty book with neat editorials, interviews (even Woody Allen makes an appearance!) and this great quote that best sums up V, this issue, my time in NY, and my approaching departure…

There really is nothing better than a good ol’ yarn/munch. The ladies behind Daydreamer, a new Irish e-zine, know this well and have put together THIS NICE LITTLE NUMBER:

I wish beyond wishes I could tell you to turn to page 32 for the WILD EXPOSE/BEST READ, but the best stories are scattered throughout the mag from an impressive variety of perspectives. My fave thing is how local and homely some of it feels. The article on page 46 made me long for the Irish motherland, while the golden oldies piece could warm the grumpiest of grumps. It all makes me want to hug my local old bodega man. Twee in the very best of ways.

Today I officially signed my resignation paperwork for American Apparel, ending a full year with the company. After the basic details there were three straight black lines on the paper with the heading “Comments”. I nearly fell off my tree. The comments, stories, and insights I have from working there would be quite the chronicle.

You’ve never been anything short of controversial AA. Stay on brand (and showered daily). Miss you, love you.

It’s great living here, it really is. The city offers you more than you could ever enjoy and standards are generally pretty high. However one thing New York can’t offer, despite numerous beautiful parks, is a full truly relaxed, quiet, crowd-free, unbothered summer’s day.

As a result you really ought to jump at the chance to get out the city as much as you can during the summer, which is what we did last weekend. Starting at South Hampton and ending at Montauk, we swam in the sea, checked out the opulent homes, had wine and smores over a fire on the beach, and experienced a cheeky bit of nonchalant Long Island culture. And this is what it looked like (in dreamy sepia of course):

back in the new york groove

Isn’t it a goddam mess when you leave something for a little while and then intend to make up for lost time but end up complicating the simple task (such as OH! a lil blog post) you never catch up? Well, here goes.

The past few months have been pretty groovy. I finished interning for Skye Parrott and Dossier Journal; experience that I am still realising was super valuable and generous of the guys. Honestly, I was a little spoilt being invited to witness such a passionate project in its early stages. Issue five is my fave so far…

IN OTHER NEWS, I was present while The Artist was Present; a Marina Abramovic installation and showcase in the MoMA that kinda blew my socks off…

Went to a pretty memorable gig at Party Expo in BK by Shooting Spires, and bid farewell to my buddy and roomie, E

And started a fashion internship at V magazine, having been thrown into the SEPTEMBER ISSUE HELLMOUTH that every mag experiences in the run up to Autumn. It’s not easy, but TINY (This is New York) and TIF (This is Fashion) so it really shouldn’t be. Plus, as New York magazine points out, V is “the most European of American fashion magazines” so I guess I fit right in. Here’s what the summer looked like at VMAG:

As the summer started I got to a little more exploring around NY, visiting Prospect Park, Coney Island and Governor’s Island (for shows that didn’t amount to what they should have). And most recently, bidding farewell to some buddies I will miss very, very much. Jeekers, I’m exhausted. But hey, I blogged.

sleigh bells & whistles

I saw Sleigh Bells a few nights back at the Bushwick Rigdewood Masonic Temple of all places. Their show was much hyped (jumping in price from $8 to $20 on the night, boo) but they put on a really great show. And probably the most dancing I have witnessed at any show in NY, so fair play to them!

And here is some (mildly) interesting trivia…I sold Alexis those disco pants and fringe dress at AA! The lady has taste.

Today I bid a farewell my little chicken lickens at AA Gramercy! Tomorrow I begin merchin’ Williamsburg. My goal for the month of May is to get Alexa Chung into a mesh button-up….like so:

But OH! I am sad to leave NYD Gramercy. We had the best times, the best food, the best impressions and the best tunes. TOP THREE:
